About Tilicho Lake Trekking

Tilicho Lake Trekking also popularly kown as Annapurna Tilicho Lake Trek. Tilicho Lake Trekking is 17-days long trekking package which takes you to Tilicho Lake- one of the highest lake in the world. The Lake is located at 5000m altitude in the base of extensive glacier system of The Great Barrier.

The Great Barrier is the highest point of Tilicho Peak. Tilicho Lake is located in Annapurna Region in Manang District and it provides splendid views of Annapurna Mountain. A beautiful image of various mountains reflected in the clear shiny water of Tilicho Lake is worth the watch.

The route of Tilicho Lake Trekking follows popular Annapurna Circuit Trekking till Manang from where the trail parts its way to Khangsar Village. Later we will pay homage to Muktinath before flying back to Pokhara from Jomsom Airport.

Tilicho Lake Trekking is eden for bird watchers. We will pass through forest of rhododendron and orchid flowers where we will get the rare opportunity to view birds like danphe, brown dipper, and white- breasted kingfisher.

Tilicho Lake Trekking is categorized as the arduous trek as we have to undergo through difficult, narrow and stony paths at several points. But wildlife including Himalayan Thar (mountain goat), snow leopard, barking deer and other mammals we get to spot makes Tilicho Lake Trekking a memorable one.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival in Kathmandu Regulus Treks & Expedition receives you at Tribhunvan International Airport and drive you to hotel. If your arrival is at appropriate time then you can enjoy leisurely walk in the streets of Thamel. It is a prime destination for foreigners. It is said that Kathmandu visit is incomplete without strolling in this part of the city. Overnight in a hotel. 

    From the second day of your arrival starts our trip mission. Today you visit Kathmandu, also known as city of temples with our guide. Basically there are four major touring sites in Kathmandu. They are: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Swoyambhunath Stupa and and Bouddhanath Stupa. And the main part is these all four sites are listed in World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

    You will be introduced to your guide by Regulus. You can have good conversation with him regarding the upcoming trip. You can enjoy the night life of Thamel which completely depends on your wish.

    Overnight in Thamel.

      We drive to Beshishahar following Prithvi Highway. From here we hire jeep to reach Syange. From Syange we walk till jagat. It is a course full of natural beauties of rivers, villages and mountians.

        Early in the morning after breakfast we move towards Dharapani following the course of jungle. Leaving the way to Chaje we follow trail to Marshyangdi River. We walk along the bank of the river. Walking by the side of green fields is really nice. Crossing forests we arrive at Kodo. Finally, we arrive at Dharapani. It is largest town of Manang Valley. Here we put off at night.

          After breakfast we start our trail. Danakyu to Timanag village is a bit steep climb. Other trail is flat. We get clear views of mountains on the way. Crossing pine forests we reach Chame. It is head-quarter of Manang district. On the way to Manang we witness several Gurung villages. Their culture, tradition and rituals are distinct from other etnic group.

            Today’s walk will give you opportunity to see mountains such as: Annapurna II and Lamjung. This is fascinating for first time trekkers. We pass through several ups and downs. It is a walk in exotic land. We finally arrive at Pisang where we put off at night.

              To get beautiful view of Annapurna II and IV, Gangapurna and Tilicho Peak we follow the trail to Upper Pisang. The sight is mesmerizing for any trekkers. Nawal village is our on the way destination. Many ethnic groups like Gurunu, Ghayarung and Magar reside here together maintaining social peace and harmony. The view of Tilicho glacier is beautiful from here. We spend night at Manang.

                It is rest day today. In order to avoid altitude sickness acclimatization is essential. Despite a rest day we will be hiking in near by villages. We visit few monasteries in Manang. It is place that shares religion with Tibet. Tibetan Buddhism is deeply rooted here. We will visit Ice Lake. It is at around two hour away from here. We also visit 100 Rs. Lama. He is a saint who gives you blessings for your prosperity and in return takes Rs 100. Due to this reason he is popularly known as 100 Rs. Lama. We spend night at Manang.

                  We follow path towards chorten and take north-west to arrive at river. We cross suspension bridge above Jharsang Khola and cross forests to reach Khangsar. It is a Gurung village where there are few monasteries, chorten, Mani walls and prayer flags. We will put off at Khangsar village.

                    It is a steep climb today. We walk behind chortens and penetrate juniper forests to arrive at Tilicho Base Camp Lodge where we will spend night. We cross streams and greenery before reaching Tilicho Base Camp Lodge. The

                    endid view of Tilicho Peak from here is beautiful.

                      Lodge We hike early in the morning to arrive at Tilicho Lake. It is around four hours walk. From the lake we get wonderful view of Gangapurna, Tar keang, Khangsar and the view of upper Manang and Pisang valley. After spending few hours here we retrace path to Base Camp Lodge.

                        It is downward walk today. We arrive at river. We cross a bridge to reach Yak Kharka. Here we stay overnight. 

                          We cross Jorsang Khola arriving at Thorong Phedi. Here we will halt at night. The grazing blue mountain sheep and Himalayan thar will make your way.

                            It is steep trail today. We pass through moraines and rocky ridges to reach Thorong La Pass. The view of several other peaks form Thorong La Pass is truly beautiful. You want to spend here few more time. From here we follow steep downtrail toarrive at Muktinath. It is a common holy site of Buddhist and Hindu. Pilgrims of both religion pay visit here. It is regarded as sacred site and one of the ‘Shakti Peeth’—female energy. Lord Vishnu is worshipped at the temple of Muktinath. He is regarded as Lord of Salvation. A Buddhist priest worships the god following Buddhist rituals. Jwala mai Temple is another place we visit to. Pilgrims here bath in holy water which comes out of stone spout. There are 108 such spouts and pilgrims run from one spout to another and get bathed from all 108 taps.

                              After exploring Muktinath we walk to our today’s last destination—Kagbeni. We cross Jomsom. The blowing wind at noon can disturb our trail so we try to pass Jomsom as soon as possible. In Jharkot we observe few monasteries. It is an entrance to Upper Mustang Trekking. We also observe Tibetan Refugee camp here. We put off at Kagbeni at night.

                                After breakfast we catch flight to Pokhara from Jomsom. It is a scenic flight of around 20 minute. We will explore Pokhara. We visit Guptsewor Cave, Davi’s Fall, Mahendra Cave and boating on Phewa Lake is must do event in Pokhara. We will spend night in a hotel here.

                                  Today after breakfast we either drive or fly to Kathmandu. We retrace the same route—Prithvi Highway to arrive at Capital. At noon you can roam around Thamel and purchase gifts for your friends and families. In the evening Regulus will offer farewell dinner. We will stay overnight in a hotel.

                                    Your trekking ends here today. We will drop you at Airport three hours earlier to schedule flight. We are thankful to you as you gave us opportunity to serve. See you soon!
