Humla-Limi Valley Trek ( The Hidden Himalaya)

To experience the rarely visited but completely beautiful trekking site and to get the sense of bathed in the beauty of nature one should go for Limi Valley Trek.To get ecstatic view of the Himalayas of Nepal, Limi Valley Trek is a must. Hilsa is the starting point of Limi Valley from where the longest river of Nepal 'Karnali' gets enter to Nepal border.The trek is rewarding as it offers chance to see Saipal (7031m), Byas Rishi, Api, Kanjirowa, Kanti, Gorakh Himalayas and Tibetan Himalayas like Mt. Kailash and Gorlamdanda. The Manasarovar Lake is cherry at the top of the trek .Trekking to Limi Valley also offers to visit 800 years old monasteries with their own historical values ,trekkers also get the chance to know the living styles,the traditions & the Tibetan culture of the people living in Limi Valley which are conserved & secured better than across the border..

The destination is popular for its flora and fauna. The region inhabits marmot, wolf, wild yak, blue sheep, wild horse, barking deer, musk deer, hare, Himalayan black bear and snow leopard.

People of this part are descendant of Tibetan origin. They still follow Tibetan culture, tradition and rituals.There are just 3 villages in Limi Valley named Til (least populated only with 30 families & closest to the Tibet-China border), Halji (touches otherside border to Burlang, Tibet) & Jhang (Limi's largely populated village with more than 300 peoples). Halji and Gombayok are popular villages of this area.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival in Kathmandu Regulus Treks & Expedition receives you at Tribhunvan International Airport and drive you to hotel. If your arrival is at appropriate time then you can enjoy leisurely walk in the streets of Thamel. It is a prime destination for foreigners. It is said that Kathmandu visit is incomplete without strolling in this part of the city. Overnight in a hotel.

    From the second day of your arrival starts our trip mission. Today you visit Kathmandu, also known as city of temples with our guide. Basically there are four major touring sites in Kathmandu. They are: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Swoyambhunath Stupa and Bouddhanath Stupa. And the main part is these all four sites are listed in World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You will be introduced to your guide by Regulus. You can have good conversation with him regarding the upcoming trip. You can enjoy the night life of Thamel which completely depends on your wish. Overnight in Thamel.

      Early in the morning, we take an hour flight to reach Nepalgunj from Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Nepalgunj is a town in low lands of Nepal bordering India in South. We will enjoy local market and people in the city. Overnight in a hotel.

        We charter flight to Simikot. It is a scenic flight that shows you snow capped peaks of different mountains. Simikot is head-quarter of Humla. We meet our rest of the crew members here. We follow rocky trail above the town of Simikot. We arrive at Dandaphoya. From here we walk almost in a flat track. We pass walnut and apricot trees to reach Dhara Pokhari where we put off at night.

          We wakeup early in the morning and after breakfast start our trek. We cross long slope to arrive at waterfall near Chachera. We now climb ridge and cross Kermi village. From here we enter into valley. We further walk through pine forests and descend to arrive at Salli Khola. Here we set up camp for night stay. 

            We cross a river and start climbing a rocky ridge. We now follow descend trail. We againg cross another ridge and arrive at sandy meadow. We cross few more ridges and pass villages of Yalbang and Yangar. Finally, we cross a suspension bridge to arrive at Muchu. Here we set-up camp.

              We walk over a ridge and arrive at Tumkot Khola. We walk in rocky bed for some time. Further, it is going to be a steep climb. We pass a village called Palbang and Yari. From here we have to climb up towards pass—Nara Lagna. We set up camp in a meadow of Sipsip. 

                It is a steep climbing today. We ascend to the height of 4,325m at Nara La Pass. From the pass we descend down following rough path to Karnali River. We set camp at Hilsa and it is the starting point of Limi Valley.

                  After passing through check post at Hilsa we follow a path which meet main trail from Sher to Limi Valley. We head towards noth-east looking Humla Karnali River. The trail is full of ups and downs. The view of Himalayas will mesmerize you. You realize that why you did not make this place earlier. The excotic place willspellbind you. If lucky, you may see snow leopard on the way to Manepema. We put off at Manepeme. There is a huge rock in this place that is reads a mantra—Om Mane Padme Om. The mantra is carved in therock and this derived the name of the village—Manepeme.

                    We walk in and out of ravines. We climb towards foot of rock place. The trail descends. We arrive at a stream and from here we again get down crossing a slope. We climb couple of rocky ridges and descend to chortens which marks the end of ridge above Til Chu. From here you get view of Til gompa. We descend down to arrive at a confluence of Takchi chu and Til chu where we set up camp for night stay. 

                      We cross Takchi Chu River. We walk for some time to arrive at Halji. We visit Rijziling Gompa as it is located in the center of Halji village.The gompa was built more than 1000 years back. People here depend upon barley farming and trading it in Tibet. Life is really hard here. We walk further more to arrive at Sunkhani followed by Limi. Here we halt at night.

                        It is a rocky valley with lots of up and down. People of Limi are renowned for making wooden bowls from pine, birch and maple trees. These trees grow in the south side of river. We further move ahead. It is uphill climb before arriving at hotspring. We set camp here.

                          It is a acclimatization day today. We rest and enjoy local surrounding. The views of Himalayas, rivers and local culture are fascinating. People here are simple and friendly. They are good at making wooden bowls which tourists purchase as gifts.

                            After a day of rest we feel refreshed. We begin our trail with short climb. Talung is a abandoned village and its debris are still found. Hot springs are still there on the way to Talung. We walk couple of hours to arrive at a site where we set camp at night.

                              It is a strenuous walk today. We cross three passes—Pali La, Kuki La and Sechi La. We walk almost for a day. But moutians view from each pass is mesmerizing. We arrive at Dhingba where we halt at night. 

                                It is an easy and short trek till Yakba. It is a pleasant day. You will enjoy local area and its culture and people. We spend night here.

                                  It is a long walk today. We pass several ridges and follow up and down course to arrive at Simikot. It is tiring day but the pleasant weather and beauty of trail will fascinate and refreh you. We halt at Simikot at night.

                                    From Simikot we fly to Nepalgunj and from here we connect flight to Kathmandu. In Kathmadnu you get time to roam around Thamel. Regulus will offer you farewell dinner. You put off in a hotel. 

                                      Your trekking ends here today. We will drop you at Airport three hours earlier to schedule flight. We are thankful to you as you gave us opportunity to serve. See you soon!
