Useful Information

The area is home to a number of historic monasteries and revered lakes, which provide a rich window into the spiritual activities and beliefs of the local populations. Meditation practices and seeing local devotees execute religious rites will certainly have a lasting impact on your soul. Therefore, hundreds of people come to the holy lakes and nearby temples on the days of Janai Purnima and Nag Panchami in the month of August to ask for blessings to fulfill their personal wishes.

On the road to Jungle Camp (Cholem), which is also referred to as a portion of Panch Pokhari, Phokte Pokhari is situated. Phokte Pokhari has a shape like a map of Nepal. To get to Panch Pokhari, we must traverse the Hurhure Pass (428 6m). Hurhure's elevation in altitude is 4286 m.

The most popular tourist attraction in Mahakulung Solukhumbu is the Khiraule Gumba / Monastery. The monastery was founded in 1738 and has the name Ngonga Thyakchhok Chholing. It's one of Nepal's oldest monasteries, and tourists like it for its captivating and distinctive exterior architecture. The monastery is thought to have been transferred from Darjeeling more than 200 years ago. It is bordered by large pine trees, which are uncommon in Nepal. Because it is believed that this monastery in eastern Nepal is where "Silent Meditation" (known as Nyungne in Sherpa and Moun Brat in Nepali) first originated, its cultural significance is highly respected.

The tenth day of the full moon in the month of "Dasami" is a special day when the villagers worship the Buddha by lighting a number of butter lamps. The villagers' essential practice of praying and performing puja at the monastery on "Dasami" (the tenth moon day) is a result. Certain areas of the Monastery were impacted by the earthquakes of 1934, 1989, and April 25, 2015. The monastery is currently being rebuilt once more by the locals.
