The snow fall in winter and strong wind blowing everyday has made the landscapes of this place incredible. The colours of chortens especially, red white and brown makes Mustang truly exotic.
Mustang region shares border with Tibet, Autonomous Region of China. Due to this reason the influence of Tibetan culture is well depicted in the lives of Mustangi people. People in Mustang region still follow old Tibetan Buddhism. Geographically Upper Mustang is a part of Tibet that is why trekking into Upper Mustang Area is identical to trekking in Tibet in many ways.
Observing Mustang from high hill or a cliff seems brown. It seems as if entire valley is wind swept. Similarly, the high standing mountains above the head are so pleasant and fascinating for the trekkers. The greenery is rare here in Mustang area.
The meditation caves in Chhusing reflect the then society of Mustang where religion was dominant factor. Legends say that Milarepa practiced meditation here. He was one of the personalities who spread modern Buddhism in Tibet. There are lots of caves in Mustang area.
Mustang is also known as Lo. It is said that Milarepa visited here in between 1040-1123 AD. It (Mustang) once used to be the part of Ngari which (Ngari) now is a province of western Tibet.
As per historians, Ame Pal founded the kingdom of Mustang in 1380. The current king of Mustang is the 25th King of Pal lineage. It was absorbed in Nepal in 1951 and the king of Mustang was given honorary colonel in Nepalese Army. At present, the population of Mustang is more than 30,000 and people of this place have strong trading link with Tibet.
Furthermore, there is also a meditation site for popular Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). It is said that he meditated in Upper Mustang area in 8th century. His meditation sites are used by Lamas these days for residential purpose.
Moreover, Upper Mustang comes under restricted area trekking. The Government of Nepal opened Upper Mustang for trekking in 1992. To preserve the unique identity of this place Nepal Government took this step & trekking in Upper Mustang got an access from this period. To trek in Upper Mustang trekkers require special permit from the Government of Nepal.

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival in Kathmandu Regulus Treks & Expedition receives you at Tribhunwan International Airport and drive you to hotel. If your arrival is at appropriate time then you can enjoy leisurely walk in the streets of Thamel. It is a prime destination for foreigners. It is said that Kathmandu visit is incomplete without strolling in this part of the city. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 02Kathmandu sightseeing From the second day of your arrival starts our trip mission. Today you visit Kathmandu, also known as city of temples with our guide. Basically there are four major touring sites in Kathmandu. They are: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Swoyambhunath Stupa and and Bouddhanath Stupa. And the main part is these all four sites are listed in World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You will be introduced to your guide by Regulus. You can have good conversation with him regarding the upcoming trip. You can enjoy the night life of Thamel which completely depends on your wish. Overnight in Thamel
Day 03Drive to Pokhara We ride on Prithivi Highway along Trishuli River. The view is really nice. The scenic beauty of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) Mountain ahead of you simply symbolizes that you are about to approach the City of Lakes—Pokhara. You can spend your leisure time by walking in lakeside at the edge of Phewa Lake. It is really pleasure walk. We will spend night in a hotel in Pokhara.
Day 04Fly to Jomsom & trek to Kagbeni We board on flight to Jomsom from Pokhara. It is a scenic flight of around 20 minute where you will enjoy scenic beauty of mountains. Our trekking begins from Jomsom as we start trekking towards Ekleybhatti along the bank of Kaligandaki River. We take rest for an hour at Ekleybhatti and move towards Kagbeni. Kagbeni seems wind swept areas as the area is rain shaded due to high mountains. We spend night at Kagbeni.
Day 05Kagbeni to Chele There is a trekking permit inspection section at Kagbeni and the officer at check post examines it. We arrive at Tangbe village. Chhusang is our next destination. We cross a riverto arrive at Chele where we put off at night.
Day 06Chele to Syanbochen The trail gains its excitement as we climb Taklam La Pass. We descend to arrive at Samar. It is a small village en route to Syanbochen. We stay in Syanbochen at night.
Day 07Syanbochen to Ghaymi We climb at Yamda La and Nyi Pass respectively to arrive at Ghaymi where we will stay overnight. It is a bit challenging but thrilling at the same time.
Day 08Ghaymi to Charang Crossing Ghyami Khola and passing plateau we move ahead. We arrive at mani wall. The site has influence of Tibetan Buddhism and it is clearly seen here. No sooner the Mani walls end we arrive at Charang village and here we spend night. There are two gompas here—the White Dzong and the Red—which are attraction of the place.
Day 09Charang to Lo-Mangthang It is a wonderful walk today. You enjoy the scenic beauty of Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna I and Bhrikuti peak on the way. The course descend till Charang Chu canyon followed by uphill. Later we descend till Lo. From here we will enjoy the beauty of Lo-Mangthang Valley. Here we spend night.
Day 10Explore Lo-Mangthang It is a rest day today and it is necessary to adjust body with the increasing altitude. But we will not sit ideal. We will explore the village today. We visit Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar. Namgyal Gompa serves as a local court here. If weather supports us we will visit Tall Champa Lakhang which means God House.
Day 11Lo-Mangthang to Drakmar Gyakar is our today’s immediate on the way destination from where we further move towards Drakmar. Ghar Gompa and Guru Rinpoche are the attraction of this place. Ghar Gompa is popular for rock paintings and it is 1200 years old monastery. We will halt at Drakmar for the night.
Day 12Dhakmar to Ghiling It is around six hours walk today. After reaching Ghiling we will take our lunch and explore the area.
Day 13Ghiling to Chhuksang It is a beautiful walk enjoying scenic beauty of Himalayas. The walk will please you throughout your life. We will spend night in Chhuksang.
Day 14Chhuksang to Jomsom It is a bit long walk. We will start our walk early in the morning. We have our lunch at Kagbeni and move ahead to reach Jomsom where we will put off at the night.
Day 15Fly back to Pokhara We land at Pokhara. You will be transferred at hotel. You can enjoy Pokhara today as you have entire day. If you do not want to go to Pookhara you can directly take a flight to Kathmandu.
Day 16Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu On this day we get back to Kathmandu by car/van. Upon your arrival at Kathmandu Regulus will give you a farewell dinner. We put off in a hotel in capital.
Day 17Fly to your destination Your trekking ends here today. We will drop you at airport three hours earlier to schedule flight. We are thankful to you as you gave us opportunity to serve. See you soon!
