Halesheor Mahadev temple lies in Khotang district, Eastern Hill of Nepal i.e 223 km far from Kathmandu. The temple of Mahadev is inside a cave which is 67 ft below the surface of land.It is one of the famous pilgrimage site of Nepal, a holy place which is equally popular among both Hindu and Buddhist. Among Hindu people it is popularly known as Haleshwor Mahadev Temple or Eastern Pashupatinath of Nepal whereas Buddhists named it Maratika cave/Maratika Monastery because they believe that the founder of Tibetan Buddhism the great rempoche (Padmasambhava) and his wife Mandarva obtained the different forms of hidden teachings of Buddha and so freed themselves in the cave.The Mahadev temple is situated at 1355M. There are three mysterious caves in Halesi which is believed to be the three eyes of Lord Shiva. There in one of the cave you can see Lord Shiva image which is named as Haleshwor Mahadev cave, the second one have an image of Nandi so it is called Basaha cave and the third cave there is an image of Bhairav so it is called Bhairava cave.Among these caves the first cave is regarded as the main part of the temple because there you can find natural image of Lord Shiva.

Day 01Kathmandu to Halesi Maratika cave 6/7 hrs driveHalesi Mahadev temple is 223 kilometer far from Kathmandu. Early in the morning we will take a drive from Kathmandu to Halesi via Dhulikhel, Nepalthok,Khurkot, Ghurmi, Okhaldhunga, Jairamghat. On the way of our drive we can relish the beautiful scenery with Sunkoshi river. We will take our lunch on the highway, take a rest & then continue our journey to reach Halesi cave.Overnight at Halesi, guest house/lodge.
Day 02Visit Maratika Cave (Halesi Mahadev Temple) Drive back to Kathmandu 6/7 hrsToday we will visit to Halesi Maratika cave early in the morning. We will take a darshan of lord Mahadev inside the temple which is located inside the Maratika cave/Halesi cave.Because of the 2 ft. tall Shiva linga, statue of Lord Shiva here in the cave this holy place (Halesi) is known as Halesi Mahadev temple.Exploring the cave and all the D wars/gates of Halesi Mahadev cave we will return back to the hotel & take a breakfast & then we will prepare our self for returning back to Kathmandu by drive via same route.
